Green Wheels is an affiliate of the Northcoast Environmental Center.

Green Wheels has come under the NEC umbrella as a fiscally sponsored project.

It is like play the Kevin Bacon game with non-profits around here.

Comments:
Gee I wonder If you'll get a complaint, that even though it was on the internet, it is now on a local blog. I did.

It's really a very small group. They just make up a bunch of group names, and call themselves a coalition.

That explains why Mark's radio ads are Pat Higgins redux - a trail all the way through Humboldt County, as if it is his idea.

wow, posting his name and address....real classy.....i sometimes wonder if you are a man or a mouse. hence the anon.r.mousy name i have given you.

It's already on the web, isn't it?.

Sure is.

In fact, the North Coast Journal already has printed information just like this before.

LINK HERE

So theo therme, you can kindly go piss up a rope.

Oh yes, by the way theo therme, I would like you to stop posting on my blog.

ok, ill take it that you are a mouse then. real men can take debate.

Theo, you don't debate though.

it must be embarrassing to continually to schooled by me. especially since i am younger than you.

anon.r.mousy,
or are you just pissed off because people stand up to your hatred?

i will never give into intimidation by some little mouse...

grow a pair, then you may get laid....

You might want to pick up the next call theo, it's for you.

i pick up all of my calls. im not afraid of mice........

Speaking of checking - it looks like Lovelace's mailer (to get the grubby paws on Palco lands) lists a website that was registered a few days before the mailer hit the mailboxes of Humboldt County, registered on April Fool's Day, funny. Either you have competition or you are training the bugs at the Mirror, Anon.R.

Then, one of his co-executive committee members (doesn't that sound good?) owns a Mill - Harwood Products, once a leader in the industry I am told, with a nice flowery website and big plans, and lots of money, now on the auction block itself, not exactly a great advertisement for the future success of the Lovelace endeavor.

Ya think?

Art Harwood is a 3rd generation mill owner. He's been in the area for his entire life. Do you doubt the exsistence of the company? I've known guys who have taken jobs down there. They exist!!

And where do you get the idea that the Harwoods have lots of money and big plans and flowery websites? They sure dont come across that way.

I'm hearing from people who worked there. They like Art. They say Art had a harder row to hoe than his father, uncle & grandfather before him... more regulation, more environmental concerns, a worsening market & so on.

They say for example, that during Redwood Summer when Judi Barry & Darryl Cherney, et al, were chaining themselves to gates & trees, blocking logging roads, picketing company offices, etc., Harwoods didn't fight back in the same way some of the other companies did. Instead, they threw open their doors, invited the protesters inside, gave them coffee & tours of the mill...

But the thing is up for auction. Apparently he blames the bank.

The flowery website, Theo - here it is

It's their words, not mine.

Creating a system of "sustained development" which fosters equilibrium with our people, resources and environment - a member of CERES since 1990.

That's his opening home page. And, perhaps, the source of his problem.

Falling lumber prices have alot more to do with the suffering industry. How is a business supposed to keep its cash flow healthy while thier product is LOSING value and the dollar is also LOSING value. In a normal market, as the dollar falls, natural resources gain in value, like oil and gold have. The less our paper money is worth, the more peices of paper it takes to buy tangible goods. The lumber market is flooded with product now, and the price has fallen. Home building is down. Imports are up.

To blame the market on a few "liberals" here or a few polticians there is actually admitting that one does not believe in supply-side economics. I realize that alot of the readers here think that they are "right wingers", but to not believe in supply and demand goes agasint every right wing economic ideal. If one were REALLY to want to help the timber industry, tarriffs would need to be placed on imported lumber coming into the USA. That my friends, is not adhering to free trade ideology.

Vote for an honest man. Vote for Paul. Don't vote for a paid lobbiest.

The miracle about Harwood is that they survived as long as they did, what with the market conditions that Theo rightly noted and also the fact that they were independent and way the fuck out in Branscomb. And the fact that Jackson State Forest, their mainstay, has been tied up in court.

They actually made a movie out of the Harwood predicament. The worst movie ever made.

No reflection on Art, though. He's a very smart guy.

"Heartwood" was a low-budget, local production directed by Lanny Cotler of Willits & was a sappy love story starring the late B-movie afficiando, Jason Robards, & Hillary Swank before she was Hillary Swank. A large part of it was filmed in Branscomb but the connection to the Harwood's life story or "predicament" ends there.
It was a terrible movie (sorry, Lanny!) but it sure was fun to watch just to see all the local scenery & people captured on film with movie stars. A very big deal in a very small town!
Harwood Products has grown & shrunk several times over the years &, unfortunately, has been operating on borrowed money & time for quite a few of those years. The current lousey market conditions may have finally gotten them (some people I know have been predicting their demise for over 40 years!) but as you say, Hank, Art is a smart & clever guy. So are Bud & Jack as was Bud, Sr. before them as well as their wives & children. It does seem pretty dismal for them right now but let's wait & see if the mill re-opens on May 1 & whether or not the bank's auction is halted as Art says it will be before we sound the death knell for them.

"And the fact that Jackson State Forest, their mainstay, has been tied up in court"

Gee, HanQ, nice that you mention that little tidbit, though more as an afterthought, along with the market condtions...

Judge Art as you will, but I am prepared to give him major props for his progress with the Redwood Forest Foundation. Take a look at who they are and what they are doing.

Why is it tied up in court?

OH. Never mind.

Second growth?

Gee, HanQQQ

Market conditions, eh...nothing at all to do with law suits preventing SECOND GROWTH timber from being harvested?

It's too bad the Journal folds itself in knots trying to espouse a certain view, i.e. trails not rails (and no, neither for or against either) instead of, uhmmm reporting the news a bit more in depth than the dailies.

Ya coulda been a contender

Pffft!
Lizzy, is that you?!!

I hope AnonR confront Hank Sims on what a tool the Journal is to prop up dead weight like Loveless.

Naw. but I have a final piece on a story that I started back in Dec, and all the newspapers missed it. From the sounds of it, a nice case of fraud and lack of oversight happened leading some projects that meant to do good, to do harm.

Oh, and hey! Is Hank Barry's kid, by any chance? Just wonderin'...

Gee, Heraldo seems to be real chummy with Lovelace - I wonder if he knows this Aaron guy too.

Aaron gets his GreenWheels rag sent out as a Journal insert for free, Aaron runs the Loveless website, and you think there's no Journal-Loveless connection?? The Journal have been pimps for the Dem Central Committee from day one and Loveless is just their latest stooge, a fake progressive who is really just a paid lobbyist.

for free? I don't know about that - although I'm open to evidence.
However the greenwheels rag is printed at the Arkley press. And doesn't Heraldo always have the inside scoop at the E.Reporter?
curious really...
